I notice more than most of them give me any credit for. I'm not nearly as flighty as all of you may think that I am. Well, not you. I don't think that you think that little of me, but I do know that even you may not give me complete credit for everything I may hear or see. Even Jonathan sometimes has a hard time remembering who I am and the knowledge I always have studied and held. I do know what those other Americans -- and your friend Beni -- think of me, though. They all think that I do not know much of anything about this place because I am merely a woman.

Merely a woman?

I wonder if they would have said the same thing about Hatchepsut or Nefertiti or Cleopatra? From what I have seen of that group? They probably would have knowing them as I do now.

I heard the whispers last night after the attack by the desert people and our little fighting lesson. I heard the question they asked you when all of you thought I was still passed out in a drunken stupor from the brandy.

"What are you going to do to spare her if they attack again with the intent to kill all of us this time? They won't just kill her, you know."

From where I was laying, I watched you stiffen and then you looked away from them -- and their question.

That's when I knew you would do anything you felt you had to do to keep me safe.

023 - Do you believe in an Afterlife? -- [info]voicesinmyhead

023 - Do you believe in an Afterlife? What do you expect to find when you get there?

Very much so.

I have studied so much about the Egyptian Afterlife -- and I have seen so many things that lead credence to it, that I cannot help but to believe in the existence of the Afterlife.

Then again, I have also been there, so I know for a fact that it does in fact exist. There's not much more proof than that, I don't think. True, I didn't stay long as my loved ones brought me back from the dead.

What do I expect to find there?

Adventure.

Voices Prompt 013 - Are you superstitious?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I never used to be. I used to believe that if I could see it and I could touch it that it was real. I didn't believe in a lot of the stories about curses and hauntings that I had heard. I studied them. I was fascinated by them. I traced their history. I never believed in them.

Then I met Imhotep.

Oh, all right, I accidentally brought him back to life after he had been sentenced to the Hyum Dai by the Medjai back in the time of Seti I. That was really an accident and I didn't mean to. You see I was reading the Book of the Dead and...

That would be another story for another time.

Anyway, in the time since then, I have become a believer in a great many things.

I don't always understand them, but I do always learn from them.

Whether Rick would rather I do or not.

Egyptian curses are more than superstions.

They're real. Believe me, I've lived them.

Voices Prompt #1 -- Who Am I?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
We could start with my name, as most polite people would do in these circumstances.

My name is Evelyn O'Connell. I used to be Evelyn Carnahan but then I met my husband and fell in love with him. I fell in love with him before he became my husband or else that could have been quite awkward. Most people close to me call me Evie. When Rick is trying to express something to me of a serious nature, he will call me Evelyn. He also calls me Evelyn if I may have gotten us into the tinsiest bit of trouble ... with undead mummies somewhere.

That happens more than you would probably like to know. My curiosity and obscure knowledge of Egyptian ritual and history tends to... uhm... bring things to life that really should stay dead. My old boss, the Curator of the Cairo Museum used to call me a plague or a catastrophe.

Oops?

It's not like I go around trying to bring the cursed dead back to life to run rampant through Egypt or anywhere else. It just sort of... happens.

I also have another name that I didn't remember until recently : Nefertiri. Apparently I'm a reincarnated Egyptian princess. I was the daughter of Pharoah Seti I and protector of sacred artifacts -- including the Bracelet of Anubis which --

Well, that is a story for another time.
